These rules supercede and overrule any other of the OSCA Division's rulesets.
INTERPRETATION OF THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS IS LEFT TO THE DISCRETION OF THE O.S.C.A TECHNICAL OFFICIALS AND EXECUTIVE. THEIR DECISION IS FINAL.
This General Vehicle ruleset overrides individual class rules.
1. FIRE EXTINGUISHER;
a) (IN CAR) OPTIONAL: Every racing vehicle may have a
Type ABC 2.5lb (1kg) fire extinguisher with a recharge slip back-dated no more than 12
months.
b) The extinguisher MUST be mounted securely with a metal quick
release mechanism or fire system release cables mounted within reach of the driver with
seat belts fastened.
c) (IN PIT) MANDATORY: Every car MUST have a MINIMUM
Type ABC 2.5lb (1kg) fire extinguisher with a recharge slip back-dated no more than 12
months accessible in the pit area.
2. VEHICLE;
a) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that any vehicle with an automatic
transmission, have a neutral safety switch, which may be routed through the brake light
switch.
b) Front, side and rear windows or openings must be unobstructed, except for safety
equipment.
c) MANDATORY for all race vehicles to have secured hoods and
trunks while on the track (unless occured damage during the race day prevents their use).
d) No radios or receivers of any kind allowed in competition, unless permitted in division
rules or issued by OSCA.
e) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rear fuel cell guard bar.
f) MANDATORY that all vehicle sheetmetal, bumpers etc are secured
before the start of each race.
g) Mirrors are allowed by flagman's discretion ONLY. Flagman has the right
to tape over any and all mirrors as he deems fit.
3. ROLL CAGE;
a) 1.5" (1½") I.D. x .100 wall steel tubing minimum, Kit
cages of 1.75 (1¾") O.D. x .095 wall steel tubing highly recommended
b) All joints MUST be welded 360 degrees with approved padding
on all bars that driver may come in contact with.
c) All roll cages MUST be attached to the frame with a
minimum of 6 points. No part of the roll cage may protrude from bodywork (except rub bars
if equipped).
d) Two - 6"x 6" - 1/8" steel plates (one on top, one on bottom
of floor) MUST be welded or bolted to the floor of unibody cars, to weld
roll cage to, if it is not attached directly to the sub frame.
e) All MAJOR joints MUST be
gusseted or triangulated.
f) MANDATORY 4 door bars (Street/Hobby) (3 door bars other classes) on
driver side WITH MANDATORY 1/8" steel plate (to fill gaps in door
bars).
g) Bottom door bar on drivers side should run parallel to and
just above rocker panel and must be attached to rocker panel by 2 intermediates.
h) MANDATORY to include MINIMUM 2 door bars or an APPROVED
X brace on passenger side.
i) MANDATORY to include roof bar split and one piece halo (dash bar
running just below window level between door posts)
j) MANDATORY to include A pillar brace on drivers side. (Left
front) 1.66 x .100 minimum if pillar is positioned at an angle greater then 20
degrees
k) Drivers head MUST NOT protrude outside cage with helmet on and
strapped in drivers seat.
l) Drivers shoulders can be no further back than front door window
post. (B pillar).
m) MANDATORY rear hoops.
n) Optional "Earnhardt bar(s)" may be added to front windshield opening.
o) Leg protection extending forward of door bars recommended
p) "NO" exhaust tubing, galvanized pipe,
threaded ends, S-bends, brazing or soldering allowed anywhere on main 6 points of roll
cage!
4. SEAT/SEAT BELTS;
a) MANDATORY approved aluminum racing seat mounted securely to the roll
cage.
b) MANDATORY quick release, 5 point harness
mounted to the roll cage with a 3" lap and shoulder belt (SFI approved 2" HANS
friendly 5 pt harness allowed).
c Shoulder mounts MUST be mounted level with the shoulder to
four inches below shoulder and in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
d) Seat belts to be anchored to the seat mount and/or roll cage at a 45-degree angle with
reference to the floor of the car.
e) Crotch strap to go through the seat and anchor behind the drivers chest line.
f) Seat belts must be changed if they exhibit wear or fraying of the fabric
g) Seat belts MUST be worn at all time on the track.
5. FUEL SYSTEM;
a) MANDATORY fuel cell must be boxed in a 20 gauge
steel container and be behind a firewall or covered by a securely fastened minimum 22
gauge sheetmetal access plate.
b) Fuel cell minimum mounting MUST use 1" x 1 x 1/8 steel tubing
(schedule 40 pipe acceptable). Mounting rails to go side to side to the frame along the
cell container and front to back along the cell container, to the mount rails boxing the
container.
c) Aluminum fuel tanks are not permitted.
d) Fuel cell maximum capacity 22 US gallons.
e) Fuel cell must be mounted a minimum of 7" off the ground.
f) MANDATORY fuel line enclosed in metal conduit if passing through driver's
compartment.
6.ELECTRICAL SYSTEM;
a) Battery MUST be mounted securely. It must be
encased in a marine style box (or of a dry/gel cell type).if mounted in the
driver's compartment.
b) Battery MUST be mounted behind driver OR in front of firewall..
c) All vehicles MUST have a master disconnect switch
that kills ALL battery power and shuts off engine power, within reach of driver and safety
crew.
7. WINDOW NETTING;
a) MANDATORY approved "ribbon or mesh
type" window net in all cars, with a quick release point, minimum 3/8" rod,
NO homemade string or chicken wire types allowed.
b) Attaching points MUST be securely attached to roll cage.
c) Window nets MUST be closed at all times on the track.
8. RACING APPAREL;
a) MINIMUM single layer fire retardant suit or fire
resistant coveralls.
b) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 2 or 3 layer fire retardant fire suit with a second
layer of clothing underneath.
c) MANDATORY approved horseshoe or similar style neck
brace or properly fitted HANS/HUTCHENS type restraining device
d) MANDATORYfire retardant/resistant racing gloves.
e) MANDATORY boots/shoes, fire retardant/resistant racing boots HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED, "NO" Nylon running shoes allowed.
e) Racing suits, coveralls, gloves or any other apparel exhibiting excessive wear,
dirtiness or abuse may be asked to be replaced.
9. HELMETS;
a) MANDATORY DOT or Snell full-face helmets.
b) MANDATORY visor or tech approved goggles if vehicle is not equipped
with a windshield.
c) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED visor tear-offs
10. VEHICLE
NUMBERING/LETTERING/PRESENTATION;
a) Car numbers will be limited to a maximum of three digits.
b) Identification numbers must be clearly legible and MUST appear on both
doors at least 18" high with a two inch stroke.
c) An 18 inch by 18 inch number with a two inch stroke MUST be on the passenger
side roof of the car facing out to the right.
d) If a number cannot be read from the flag stand or main tower, it will have to be
modified.
e) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all cars be nicely presented, including paint and
lettering at start of every race.
f) "NO" racial slurs, profanities or vulgar pictures or statements allowed
anywhere on car, local or visitor.
11. TECHNICAL INSPECTIONS;
a) ALL vehicles competing MUST go through tech inspection BEFORE
RACING if directed.
b) The driver/owner of the vehicle is responsible to make their vehicle conform to local
rules.
c) If you have a problem not specified in the rulebook, contact the Technical Inspector
for your division and receive a written opinion.
d) Omission of any technical/mechanical rule does not imply it is legal.
e) The scales supplied by the OSCA are the benchmark and will determine the
actual weight and weight percentages of all vehicles.
f) The OSCA Technical Committee reserves the right to increase or decrease the weight of
any race vehicle to equal competition if necessary.
12. POST RACE TECHNICAL INSPECTIONS;
a) The OSCA Technical Committee reserves the right to tech the top five
finishers of the feature events, or any other vehicle, at any time.
b) Refusal of tech will result in immediate suspension of the vehicle and number for the
remainder of the year.
c) Any vehicle finishing in the top five positions of a feature race that does not report
to the technical inspection station immediately on leaving the race track if directed will
be disqualified.
d) Any vehicle that fails the weight and/or measurement requirements for their division
will lose any points and/or prize money earned for the race where the infraction occurs.
13. OSCA WEBSITE;
a) The Official OSCA Rulebook available from the secretary of the
OSCA will override any rules, techniques or procedures listed on the OSCA website or
forums .
